Arts Program School
El Oro Way has the privilege of being an Arts Program School. This program brings high quality arts instruction in all three disciplines; dance, theater and visual arts. All teachers have been trained by art specialists who teach at our school. The goal of the program is to promote and implement a comprehensive visual and performing arts program available to all students. All teachers integrate the arts into their regular curriculum to provide students with a well-rounded and enriched educational program. Teachers and students alike have been enjoying this expressive program at our school and hope to continue our partnership for years to come.

Wonder of Reading Library
El Oro Way celebrated the grand opening of our Wonder of Reading Library in November 2006. The newly expanded library features a story amphitheater, study cubbies, and even a cozy reading nook complete with fireplace. Additionally, we are currently working on completing our Reading Garden, located just outside the library. This outdoor setting will include a stage area, small grass lawn area, and multiple tables and benches to bring the pleasures of reading outdoors.

Technology Lab

The Tech Lab is integrated intoTechnology Lab all areas of the curriculum as an extension of the classroom.  Through the support LAUSD Board Member Schmerlson, coding/robotics exposure and participation is offered to all classrooms. Currently, K - 2nd grade students explore Scratch Jr.; 3rd grade students engage in Lego Wedo and 4th and 5th grade students work with UBtech coding robots. Lego Wedo kits were supplied by the El Oro Way PTA. A grant for more Lego Robotics was provided by Councilman Lee's Office and we are looking to expand the LegoRobotics with more advanced kits.   A part-time Tech Lab assistant is funded by the El Oro Way PTA.

Youth Services (Playground)
The LAUSD Beyond the Bell Branch provides one coach to distribute equipment and supervise students in emergencies. Because of the limited supervision, only students in 2nd through 5th grade are allowed on the afterschool playground. It is important to note that this program is very unstructured and does not include help with homework or organized activities on a daily basis. Parents should take this into consideration when making the decision to leave their children on the afterschool playground.

Student Support & Progress Team

The Student Support & Progress Team (SSPT) is an integral part of the process that supports success for all students at El Oro Way. SSPT is comprised of the child’s teacher, parents, an administrator, a special education teacher, a facilitator, and other specialists who may be of assistance to the team in support of students at risk academically and/or behaviorally. Meeting monthly, the team discusses strategies, accommodations and interventions that may help a student on his or her road to success. The goal is for each child to flourish at El Oro Way.
